Luigi Naldini elected as an international member to the National Academy of Medicine
ESGCT extends its congratulations to previous ESGCT President, Luigi Naldini, who has been elected as one of 10 international members to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). The announcement was made on 19 October during the NAM annual meeting. Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honours in the fields of health and medicine and recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.
Prof. Naldini was recognised for pioneering bench-to-bedside development of lentiviral vectors for gene transfer. These are providing safe and effective therapies for thousands of patients affected by severe or lethal inherited diseases or cancers, some of which are now registered drugs in the European Union and U.S.
